head chef marco inspired by vegetarian girlfriend

having a relationship in this hardship industry is tough, however, living with a vegan has been a huge creative journey for marco, creating some of the abars best ever dishes. the successful home cooked trials make it onto the menu. The latest original creation is the soft baked butternut squash filled with quinoa, soothing avocado puree and basil. the plate is finished with a balsamic glaze and summery sunblushed tomatoes. watch this space for more creative designs from the marco-anna household.

peter lehmann wine supper

on tuesday 18th august we hosted another of our fantastic wine tasting suppers. this time we were lucky enough to have joe roberts from peter lehmann wines hosting. we started with the layers White as an aperitif which went down a storm, and is now served by the glass in the restaurant.

PL Tasting 3PL tasting 2

this was followed with some great food and wine matching with the hill & valley riesling served with crab & apple tian, hill & valley shiraz with spicy beef noodles, mentor cabernet sauvignon with confit duck leg and finishing with peter lehmann botrytis Semillon which was matched perfectly with peach & frangipane tart.

abar & camber wines do the great south run

emma (manager at abar) & jose (manager at camber wines) are taking part in the great south run to raise money for our chosen charity the rowans hospice.

they have set a colossal target of £2,000 as this is a massive task for both of them… not being runners (or photogenic)!

training started last month with a few pt sessions with luke newton from sweat southsea and lots of runs on the seafront.they have finally cracked the five mile mark last week but know they still have a long way to go!

please help us meet our target for such a great cause.

what a weekend

america’s cup world series finally, after months of preparation, hit portsmouth this weekend!

we were fortunate enough to have a couple of visits from the man himself sir ben ainslie and despite the wet weather, ben and his team did us proud.

big thanks to our customers as we smashed through our busiest weekend to date.

of course, we couldn’t have done it without all our lovely staff and talented chefs who worked hard through the madness-so well done all!

we also raised a brilliant £550 towards our rowans hospice fundraising. a big congrats to all our prize winners.

this is not a joke….

so, cant believe i’m saying this, but on behalf of our rowans hospice fundraising- jose and emma have agreed to attempt the great south run 2015!

if there is something you should pay to see, it’s this.

their training has already begun and we will keep you posted on their progress…

10 years and counting!!!

the abarbistro would like to say a massive thank you to a certain ms kelly barrow.

it had slipped by us that at the end of last month Kelly had been working with us for 10 years, and in that time the abarbistro has had a number of nips, tucks and face lifts.  after each one our loyal customers have been greeted with kelly’s smiling face, exemplary service and (almost!) faultless order taking.

kelly has now decided to take a well deserving summer off work here at the abar, however we do look forward to welcoming her back.

from everybody here kelly, thank you very much for your efforts over the last 10 years xxx

kelly
